Broadband redundancy
I took Sky up on their offer of a free 2Mb broadband service for a one-off activation fee of £40. I was impressed by Sky’s customer service – they answer the phone in less time than it takes to get through BT’s automated menu and were very efficient in taking my order.
The Sky branded Netgear router arrived soon afterwards and the installation was completed in less than the ten days they’d told me to expect.
The only hiccup was that the work in the exchange which apparently led to a crossed wire and left us without a phone service for 4 days. BT blamed it on recent storm damage and insisted the fault was underground, until the engineer called from the exchange to say it was a wiring problem that he’d now fixed.
So I now have some redundancy in my internet connectivity (albeit capped to 2Gb per month) – which might save me the painful experience Simon’s just been through at some point in the future.
If you live in the UK and Sky are offering their base service in your area it might be a good backup option.
