Lotus Quickr 8 & OpenXML

According to the User's Guide for Lotus Quickr, Version 8.0 :-

Using the Windows version of Internet Explorer, you can import the following:

  • A file with the extension .HTML or .HTM
  • Microsoft(R) Office 2007 XML file formats *.docx , *.pptx, and *.xlsx
  • A Word 2000, Word XP, or Word 2003 file (a file with the extension .DOC), if Word is installed on your computer
  • A Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, PowerPoint XP, or PowerPoint 2003 file (a file with the extension .PPT), if PowerPoint is installed on your computer
  • A Microsoft Excel 2000, Excel XP, or Excel 2003 file (a file with the extension .XLS), if Excel is installed on your computer
  • Any file with the extension .GIF, .JPG, or .JPEG

Lotus Quickr creates a copy of the information you are importing and then inserts the copied information into the new document, leaving the original file unchanged.

I wonder how far behind write support can be? And if Quickr is a customised Domino server I'd imagine the code can be reused elsewhere too, maybe Notes 8 might have a surprise for us after all.

But, but, but ... that cannot be true ... Microsoft is the only vendor capable of implementing OOXML! Some guy named "Rob" has been really picky about this :o)

On a more happy note - did you also notice that import of OOXML does not require Microsoft Office installed on the source PC? This is a crucial step away from the vendor lock-in we'd all like to move away from.

Also, this actually indicates that I was kindda right when I said on Brian Jones' blog, at IBM is likely to have implemented OOXML for their various products already.
